The Growing Trend of PR in the Media

Hancock movieHancock is a misguided super hero; failing miserably while somewhat…struggling to do the right things. The growing financial toll as result of his “honorable attempts” leaves the citizens of Los Angeles, including the law enforcement, a little less than grateful to have him around. Who cleans up his mess and makes him lovable again? A PR guy.

Public Relations is a glorified cleaning service. This is our calling and purpose: to clean up peoples messes and to take preventative measures to ensure a clean slate in the future. Where PR was once an underground profession, with practitioners busy cleaning away possible media infractions with out anyone knowing of their presence, now it is as well known and sought after as the very corporate positions that it was created to protect. For example, look at the media attention that our noble profession is recieving in movies such as ‘The Bucket List’, “Hancock’ and ‘Sex and the City’, PR practitioners are saving the day on a regular basis.

As can be expected, the media attention has only increased the trend of PR, and with it the job openings and over-all demand. With hundreds to thousands of jobs being posted everyday on sites such as: PR Week Magazine, and TalentZoo just about anyone who is flexable enough to relocate can be guaranteed a job if the right amount of effort is put forth. Besides, if the question arrises as to whether or not you are capable of the job, just remember the negotiation and reasoning skills that you were taught in school. PR them until they realize how much they need you. After all, if a super hero like Hancock needs a PR guy, then so does a CEO, because he or she may have a harder time gaining admirers.
